Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Indiana
divorce and bankruptcy
My girlfriend is going to declare bankruptcy along with her soon to be ex-husband. Once the bankruptcy is filed they can complete the divorce. We plan to get married. What is my liability to the bankruptcy and how can I protect myself and my assets?

Re: divorce and bankruptcy
The bankruptcy is HER bankruptcy, so your assets won't be subject to her problems.
However, given the circumstance, I would be very cautious about commingling debts and assets after the marriage.
I would let her prove herself to you first.
She could get into another mess and can file for bankruptcy again in 6 years, and it sounds like you won't want to go along with that willingly.
