Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana

i am being accused by a former business partner of having their phone number (account) billed in excess of $430 + lawyer fees of $450 for a voicemail service that I never subscribed. I have researched this on the internet and it clearly is a scam by the company (group lotto) to illegally bill people on their phone accounts (verizon) by telling them that they signed up for voicemail services.

I have not had access to my former business since I sold my 1/2 of the business in 2003 and former business partner claims this started in 2007. I have nothing to do with this and wonder if i can sue him for defamation, libel or slander since he will never be able to prove any of this?

Some additional information is required to answer your question. Importantly, a defamation claim generally requires that the publication (your former partner's accusations) is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (you). Was it a public or private accusation?

Feel free to contact me directly if you'd like to discuss this in greater detail.
