Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana
Do i need a Contractor's License?
Thank you in advance. This is really 2 questions. If it's not possible to answer both, please answer the first.
I am a journeyman plumber, almost 25 years.I am considering starting a business, winterizing homes that have been foreclosed. This will likely involve installing battery operated sump pumps. I know that I will have to carry liability insurance for obvious reasons, but since I am not adding or removing p-traps, gas lines, etc., will I also be required to have a valid contractors license?
I am also thinking of doing handyman work, drywall and other non electrical or structural work.. Do I need to be separately bonded for this activity? If so, who do I contact? Am I allowed to 'contract' work, or do repairs in residences under a journeyman's license? In situations that require permits, such as moving or replacing a p-trap or toilet, etc, can the home owner 'legally' pull the permit or am I prohibited from doing the work? I am currently bonded by the state of Indiana, plumbing.

Re: Do i need a Contractor's License?
I am going to suggest that you hire a lawyer. Two reasons, you are asking very complicated questions in a forum that really does not work well for complicated questions and also because I think you are missing some points that need dealing with such as business formation and home improvement fraud and its requirements for contracts.
