Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana

My husband was part owner in an RV company. He opted out on January 17, 2017, because of some shaddy business by his partner. Since the partner has sold all inventory, and closed the business, leaving many unpaid bills. My husband did sign a paper and had it notarized stating he no longer was responsible for any debts or assets from that date. He did not know his partner was going to sell out at the time. Now, he has a summons to go to court over an unpaid bill, the summons is dated Feb 2. Any advice?

Closing a business is not a do it yourself project. The paper your husband signed is probably worthless. It takes an attorney to properly wind down a business in accordance with state law. There is no such thing as opting out. Retain a lawyer to represent you in court. You may owe the money.
