Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana
Liability for handling customer credit cards in a lax manner
Could you give me any guidelines on the possible liabilities involved in the handling of customers' CC information. What could happen if an employee stole a #, etc.

There is no statute in Indiana that specifically deals with the loss of credit data of an individual person. However, you should have safeguards in place to make sure no credit information is leaked. Otherwise, normal criminal background screening for your employees and random audits of the credit transactions should avoid many of the potential pitfalls.

I assume that mean liabilities of the employer. Well, there is negligent hiring - you hired a criminal without doing a background check. Liability would really depend on a lot more facts than you are giving here. In my opinion, depend on whether the bad act was foreseeable or not. You need to see an attorney face to face.
