Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana
Over the past year or so our home town has installed a city sewer system. My wife and I had recently installed a brand new septic system at our home. The Sewer committe sent bills to all the homeowners in the district and my wife and I did not pay them. My wife and I were granted a exemtion from the sewer committe and the county Health Department becouse our sewer was so new. They continued to bill us and now it is accruing a 10% charge on top of all the bills for a service they never rendered to our house. They have placed a lien and a judgement against our property and are trying to take our home. Can they charge us for service they never performed, expecially since we were exemted from even having to hook up to the city sewer for a period of ten years.

There is probably some facts here of which you are not aware or else someone has made a mistake. It was perhaps a mistake to ignore the bills because the problem has now compounded. You need to immediately put this matter in the hands of a competent local attorney so that he can rectify this situation for you.
