Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana
Photographer's online portfolio
I am working as a sports photographer for a newspaper. I want to go into business for myself selling sports photos. Can I legally use the photos I have taken for the paper (while being paid by the paper) to put in my online porfolio? Also, if I was to use one of those pictures on the frontpage of my webpage (not in the portfolio section) would that be considered using the image for profit? I know the NCAA and IHSAA have been going around about this, but how does this effect a private site? Does the artist have any rights over her own photos or does everything belong to the paper?

Unless your contract says differently, your photographs would work for hire and do not belong to you.
