Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana
Small Business
I create Wedding Invitations and would like to make it my own small business as a freelancer or sole proprietor. Do I need a business license or tax id number? My first and last name are in the title of the name. If so, how do I go about doing this?

Re: Small Business
You will have to check with the City or Town you are located in to determine whether a business license is needed. An EIN is not necessary unless you have employees. However, it may not be a bad idea. For example, if you are selling on consignment, you may be asked for your social security number or EIN by the store owner paying you. Personally, I do not like to give out my dd number more than is necessary. UNder this circumstance, an EIN is preferable, but not required.
