Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana

Threat

I work in the coprate office of a small grocery chain in Indiana, Owned by a much larger grocery chain in Cincinnatti. I passed our division president in the hall the other day as I did he greeted me with a ''Hello'' in response I said ''Hi'' and continued about my way. Later in the moring He comes into my office terrably irate, and thratens me that if the next time I pass him in the hall or come into his office to leave anything on his desk for him that I had better be ''more friendly & cordial than I have been'' or else ''I will be fired'' along with a few other things undermining the imporance of my job. I have never been treated this way by him before. I don't think it was right for him to threaten my job over the matter. Is it even leagal?

Re: Threat

While these comments may be rude and tasteless, this is not likely to be actionable. Unless these comments fly in the face of a union contract which you are member of, you have a writtem employment contact which addresses such isuues or this was some type of sexual harrasement, theres not much which can be done.

Even if there were, without other witnesses, it would one person's word against another's. Futhermore, understand that Indiana is an employment at will state. This essentially means that if your employer feels today is a good to fire someone, he can for whatever the reason.

Howver, do keep in mind each matter turns on it's own facts. The above is only in response to the limited information provided and should not necssarliy be relied upon as applicable to this situation
