Legal Question in Business Law in Indiana
young illustrator
I am starting a greeting card business. I want to have one line of note cards illustrated by my 9-year-old step-son, a portion of the proceeds to be donated to a children's charity. My step-son wants to illustrate the cards, and my husband has legal physical custody, although each parent has my step-son half of the time. The mother is a little ''out there'', and I am worried she will cause a problem, stating that I am using my step-sons artwork, and he is not receiving financial benefits. Does she have any grounds to say this? Do I need to have my husband sign a contract outlining my stepsons role in the project and benefits to be received?

You are entering into a complicated area involving copyright and trademarks and business organizations as well family law. The contract idea is a fine one but only a start. Definitely get a lawyer involved early on.
