Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Indiana

civil right violation

My daughter married a man from a small town where his family has had money for generations. His father is the county jailer and works with the only judge on a daily basis, his mother grew up with the judge and calls him at home. Should the judge have heard this case? My daughter got railroaded from day one. She had to miss the final hearing because of a mult-county ban on driving due to a freak ice storm. The court told her to bad, the locals can get her and the judge gave sole custody to her ex. This family spent years mentally and emotionally abusing my daughter and then they stole her daughter from her using a family friend as the judge. We don't have much money and can't afford a lawyer, legal aid is like we don't want to take the case, they don't want to get involved. Is there no justice in this world? They jailed my daughter on a trumped up assualt charge a couple of years ago, since her ex-mothe-in-law started the fight, she told them fine, she pressed charges on me, I want to press charges on her. The police told her she couldn't do anything. This is how they engineered getting custody in the first place. Her ex-husband offered to drop charges if she would come home and behave herself. Please Help Her.

Tough case. Suggest you hook up with a large law firm on a pro bono (free) basis. It sounds as though you may have a Section 1983 cause of action -- not sure, but it has some elements of that; and perhaps other civil rights statutory protections are involved here. Call the Indianapolis bar association and see what you can come up with. If you can get a hearing with one of those law firms, you might come away with a lawyer. It's worth trying.
