Is there an amendment that says you have the right to protect the name of an informant? if so what is it?

It's the first amendment you're thinking of, when it relates to journalism.

In the context of a criminal investigation, however, it relates more to police powers. The courts have construed the Constitution NOT to require police officers to identify informants, because that interferes with their investigative and crime enforcement duties.
