Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Indiana

demoted due to pregnancy

My wife works for a hotel. Until about a week ago she was the manager of her department. She has been in that position for over 2 years. She has worked long hours and never recieved pay increases as promised. Her supervisor, which is the hotel manager gave her a memo stating that she was demoted due to things in her job performance that she wasnt doing. He gave here a long list of things she had done and then demoted her back to a desk clerk. She looked at the list of problems and has documentation that she did all the things that were listed. They cut another girls hours so much that she had to quit her job. She was also pregnant. She is unable to find a job due to her pregnancy and we are looking for direction as to how we should handle this. Thank you for your time

Re: demoted due to pregnancy

Federal law protects against discrimination in the workplace due to pregnancy. The Pregnancy Disicrimination Act and similar state laws are available to you. If, as you say, there is proof of discrimination, contact an attorney in your area as soon as possible and make contact with the employer to discuss this. If they don't want to act in good faith, then you might want to consider suit. Good luck.
