Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Indiana
what can i do about a fellow employee that is playing christian music at work and i am offended by it
1 Answer from Attorneys
If the employer allows music to be played at work, trying to shut off a particular brand of music could create some problems. There is no special law that would prohibit the playing of any kind of music, Christian or otherwise. That is in the control of the employer. Wear earplugs. Play your own brand of music. Ask the individual to turn the volume down. Again, there is no law against playing music. We are a widely diverse nation. There are many things in life that may bother us. Just because someone plays some music that we don't like does not give rise to some kind of legal right, no more than it would if someone said something to us that we did not like or disagreed with. That's what freedom is all about. If everyone had to comply with one person or groups views, then we'd end up all being compelled to live with and be governed by the dictates of one groups way of life, their rules. We've spilled too much blood in our history for our freedoms to now reverse that and allow the dislikes or preferences of others to rob us of those freedoms.
