Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Indiana

puppy falling

My 16 year old daughter, was in a cast with a broken leg, when our neighbor was out with their new puppy, she asked them if she can see him, unable to walk with her cast, their 14 year old daughter brought the puppy over. The dog started to get squirmy, my daughter said here take him, and as she handed him to the 14 year old, he fell and broke his foot. I felt it was an accident, and thought we should split the cost, but I was given a bill for 300.00 dollars. Please Help. Thank-you

Re: puppy falling

Your offer to split the cost was generous. Probably too generous. Your daughter is probably not responsible at all for the accident. It sounds like no one was negligent, that is did something the reasonable person would not have done. The question now is do you stand behind your offer, or back out of it? Graciously?
