Legal Question in Technology Law in Indiana
My boyfriend and a friend were fighting with each other through text messaging on my phone. She was trying to stop him and I from fighting, and believed that he physically abused me. Neither of them have met in person and she does not know anything about him other than his first name. She supposedly took the messages to the police, stating that he threatened her because he typed that she needed to stay out of our (mine and his) business before she gets herself into something she can not get out of. She also stated that she told the police he hits me (which he does not). Is there anything the police can do to either him or I if she has none of his information, but has my phone info? Also, her boyfriend left a voice message on my phone saying he (my boyfriend) messed with the wrong person and that he knew some cops and had friends who were "licensed to carry" and that he had messed with the wrong person. I would think that to be more of a threat and have more evidence than a text message if I chose to take that to law enforcement.

It's difficult for me to comment since I haven't seen the text messages. If the police confront you then you should disclose the threat her boyfriend made and you should save his message.
