Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana
About 10 months ago my husband and I bought a car for $500.00. When we went to the dmv to turn in the title in both of our names, instead of getting it back in the mail, we get a letter from the state advising us the the child support bureau had put a lien on the title because of my husbands back child support. At present he owes less than $1000.00, and money is taken out of his disability check every month to pay it, and has been for years. My question is, can or how can they put a lien on it if I (the wife) do not owe any of the debt? I feel like I am being punished by not being able to have the title and be able to sell the car if I want to. What can I do if anything?

You can contact the local prosecutor who put the lien in the car.
