Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana
I cancelled an insurance policy and they sent me a check for $738. The check did not say what it was for. It did not say "refund." It was just a check from them to me for $738. I assumed this was correct and cashed the check.
Now a month later I get a letter in the mail stating that this check was sent to me in error and that I owe the company $738. What is my legal obligation to repay the money? Also, as a side note, I do not have an account here anymore as I switched to a new company.

You need to demand from them the reason that they sent you the check, and why they want it repaid, all in writing. Generally speaking though, you cannot keep money which doesn't really belong to you.
