Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Car repossession

I had a car that was repossessed in 1997, and just now 2008 have been contacted by a firm who says they were hired by some other firm to collect the debt. I have heard nothing regarding this loan in a decade and only now they are trying to collect. This sounds a little fishy to me. Is this legal?

Re: Car repossession

I am amazed at what collection agencies will do to collect debts, even debts that are not valid or which are barred by relevant statutes of limitation.

Based on the limited facts provided here, this debt is most certainly barred by the statute of limitation here in Massachusetts, which is 6 years.

You should hire an attorney as soon as possible with the hope of heading off any potential litigation. I am located in Quincy, and you are more than welcome to contact my office.

If there is a judgment, then you probably owe money. TO make sure this is accurate, you need to have the matter and the paperwork reviewed by an attorney.
