Collection of a civil judgement for wrongful death

I have been awarded a settlement of 500,000.00 for a wrongful death suit for my son. It is currently with a collection agency,after many attempts to collect in court,last hearing outcome was debtor said he had no job and did not intend on getting one to keep me from garnishing his wages. can he refuse to work and pay the debt? What might be my options here?

Have you conferred with an attorney about collecting this judgment? It would be important to know some facts about your son's death - the usual who, where, when, what sort of thing. There may be some third-party liability. Was your judgment the result of a default? A lot of questions need to be examined. To answer your immediate question, yes, the judgment debtor can refuse to work, you cannot compel him to work, and he might even be able to discharge the judgment in a bankruptcy proceeding.
