Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana
My daughter went to court today on not paying her electric bill. The credit bureau that has now taken over was there talking to her. In a small room no jugde. The lady told her she had to pay 30 to 40 dollars a month on a 700.00 bill. My daughter is a full time nursing student only works 8 hrs a week. Pays rent, car payment, and struggles on that. We try our best to help her every month on her bills now. So she told them that would be very hard to do with her income. They told her they would reserve her for a July court. Which she was charged 120. Court fee also. Which now bill is more than what she thought. Any ways they said this next court date would be setting up garnishment of her check. How much can they take from her since she is not making much now? She tried to show proof and they wouldn't even look at her financial situation. What can she do?Thank you

Garnishment is a percentage after exemptions. If a person doesn't make much, the garnishment isn't much either.
