Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana
divorce and credit
My son is getting a divorce (it has not been filed yet) and in the meantime is living in the home they built. They agreed to split the majority of the bills but she has stopped depositing money in the bank account. He cannot afford to pay all of the bills on his own. When they are divorced she will go back to her maiden name. In the meantime can she ruin his credit and not have this debt show up in her name after the divorce?

Re: divorce and credit
Your facts are a little vague but a husband can only be responsible for debt he contracted for. I suggest reading Divorce, Property Division, Dividing Debts, and the old Credit Rating which you can find here: http://haslerlaw2.blogspot.com/2008/02/divorce-property-division-dividing.html and my other articles on property division: http://www.blogger.com/posts.g?blogID=1442020469207898141&searchType=ALL&txtKeywords=&label=property+issues
I think you definitely need an attorney.
