Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana
My Doctor had me get 2 tests done from a lab out of state. The lab only provided one of the requested tests. I signed a paper saying I would pay like 178$ which they would submit the remainder to insurance. When I only got one of the test results, I called and asked if there would be a prorated cost for only getting the one result. They told me they would look into it and get back to me. I then received a bill for over $2000! When I called them, they said I didn't submit the original fee in time and there was nothing they could do. I have begun getting letters from a collection agency. I have written and called but no one seems to help. I don't know if this can be submitted against my credit or what they can do to me. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

You are liable for whatever you signed. If there was an amount, you only pay that amount. But if you generally agreed to pay for charges, you are bound by that. The writing is what controls.
