If a legal adult owes money for an outstanding bill, is it legal for a collection agency to call a senor parent, ask for the senor parents social security number and then set up automatic payments monthly from their checking account?

It is not proper for the collection agency to do what they did. If such a payment plan was set up, the senior parents need to consult with an attorney to have the situation resolved.
