Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana
Lien by State
I have a state tax lien placed by Hawaii filed 12/27/04 showing on my credit report. I left Hawaii back in 1999. I had no idea this was placed. I have been told they only had 3 to 4 years to do this. One of my reports also shows another lien was place in May of 2006. Again, no notification. To complicate things further, I filed bankruptcy in July 1999. Can they legally collect these liens? Can I have them disputed on my credit report because of my bankruptcy? Do I write the state of Hawaii and request information that shows they are mine? The first lien could possibly be mine because of a dispute over wages, but I don't understand the second lien at all.

Re: Lien by State
The only thng I can be sure of is that your bankruptcy did not touch this debt. I suggest contacting someone in Hawaii to find out what the basis is for the lien or that you send a letter to the credit reporting agency telling them that you dispute the debt or both.
