Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Minor incurred credit card debt with falsified age. Am I liable? Is she?

My stepdaughter received a credit card at 13 under ''mysterious circumstances'', credit report now shows her as 38 (she's 17) and two charged off debts for $2k. Is she liable for this still? Am I liable? She was not living with us when this happened, she was living at her mom's house.

How can I correct her age with the credit bureaus without bringing them down on me?

A transaction involving a minor is VOID for up to two years after the minor reaches the age of majority. I assume it is not your credit report that carries the charge-off. You are not liable for your daughter's pecadillo unless you took some action to ratify it.

As to the credit bureau, she can write them and dispute the debt under the Fair Credit reporting Act and they must respond within 30 days. Take the opportunity to correct the age listing too
