Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Step-Father's Debt after Death

My step-father died a year ago and left a huge amount of credit debt. Because he and my mom lived in CA it passed on to her. She is going to move in with me in IN. Is there any way that the creditors will come after my husband and me? The creditors have already begun calling my house even though she has not yet moved in.

Although I never signed the lease I did fill out an app. for an apt for her which she defaulted on. That is my only financial tie with my mom.
