Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

sued for credit card debt

I had a large unpaid balance on a card and was unable to work terms out with this card grantor. After the close of there buisness year they wrote me off and sold my debt to another party for pennys on the dollar. After two years of telling them to get lost,, they are now sueing me for the full amount plus interest. I recieved a summons and need to respond very soon. Were do I sand now? can I beat this on my own? do i need to retain attorney? From what I have learned in the past, my original agreement was against federal law banking rules and i may stand a chance? Help!

Re: sued for credit card debt

Get a lawyer. I assume that the large balance puts you over the limit for small claims. Which means you are playing with the regular trial rules and that in itself is enough for you to get a lawyer.
