Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Summons--what to do

We received a summons for a credit card debt from a collection agency. We have no letters from them but a phone call at 7:45 am on a Saturday. We don't know if they have valid information on this debt. We can not afford to pay due to job losses and medical expenses. It says ''if you have a claim for relief against the plantiff arising from the same tranaction or occurrence, you must assert it in your written answer.'' What does that mean? thank you.

Re: Summons--what to do

You have twenty days to file a written response or you will have a default judgment entered against you. You should hire counsel who can file the necessary pleadings and also dispute the debt. Don't be penny-wise and pound foolish-a little money for an experienced attorney now could save you a lot more later
