Is a city police officer allowed to make a traffic stop outside of his city limits?

While it does depend to a degree on the circumstances, an officer may pursue a vehicle which has just crossed a county line after obsvering an infraction or other crime prior to the crossing.

An officer may even become involved where he/she observes a clear criminal act outside of their jurisdiction where the police there have not yet addressed the issue.
