Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
Being Blamed for a crime i didnt committ
My friend is facing charges of forgery for somehow stealing a young ladies checks and depositing them for large sums of money, $2500 in total. The odd this is that he stole the checks from my apt, the previous tenat was still recieving mail there and we left her mail on the front table in the living room with everyone elses mail. Since hes been caught he has stated to the police that I gave him the checks, and even went to the bank with him to withdraw some of the money. Yes i went to the bank with him, but I only gave him a ride there one time. I only did it that time because he owed me money for damaging my car, in which i filed a disregarded police report for. I have a felony of making counterfiet money on my record, if and when the detective or police come asking question about whatever he did what do I say or do. Im in not position to hire an expensive attorney and the public defenders down here basically work as if they are prostecutors not even attempting to defend clients. I was not apart of this scheme, and with a criminal history how can i really get anyone to believe i had no invovlement in this situation?

You can't afford NOT to hire any attorney!! Think about it: How much is a felony conviction and possible years in prison worth to you?? Do you really want to risk spending time in prison because you wanted to save some money?? As for the police, you should not make any statements to them. You will only help them build a case against you.
