Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

My boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of murder and armed robbery with two other individuals. Two individuals gave confessions on the spot. He hired a lawyer who advised him to give a statement to the police. BEFORE HIS ATTORNEY ACTUALLY INTERVIEWED HIM. His lawyer had no deal with the prosecutor, he only told him he was looking like the bad guy. He said if he gave his statement to investigators the prosecutor would not file murder charges since he was not the principle in the crime. His attorney was wrong and the prosecutor filed felony murder and robbery charges the next day, after he gave his statement. Basically his statement was the prosecutors entire case against him...since his lawyer should have never allowed him to give an interview to the investigators without a deal, without properly interviewing his client first...does he have an ineffective assitance of cousel claim on his post conviction release?? Thank you for your help!
