Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

I was caught shoplifting at a store in Greenwood, Indiana. The officer that was called over told me, "I'm arresting you, but I'm letting you go", and told me to make sure I appeared in court at the date listed on the ticket she issued me. Then, when I called to try to get a continuance on the court date because of the new job I just started, I was told that there was a warrant out for my arrest in regard to this crime. Is it legal for someone to be arrested twice for the same incident? I was told I can pay $300 and immediately bond out, but I don't understand why the officer said "I'm arresting you, but letting you go" if I was only going to be arrested again for this. It doesn't make sense, and even though I know what I did was wrong, this whole process seems like something's gone awry with it. They are also charging me with a felony, do you have any suggestions on how to get it plead down? Thank you....

Is it legal for someone to be arrested twice for the same incident? Yes, it can happen in some instances.

Do you have any suggestions on how to get it plead down? Hire an attorney in your community, and if you can not afford one, ask for a public defender.
