Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
Civil Responsability of Employing Minors
My son, who is 17, was employed at a department store. He was involved in a small theft ring, from within the store. He has admitted his guilt, and returned the stolen merchandise, but some of the others involved are trying to lay undo blame on him, and is being slightly harrassed by our local police force.
We allowed our minor son to be employeed, with a bond of trust that the store managers would oversee the wellbeing of our son and proper supervision that would train and squelch any temptation. My question is, Do we have any claim of neglegence on the manager's behave? And is there a civil manner that needs corrected?
I would appreciate a reply.

Re: Civil Responsability of Employing Minors
The is no civil responsibility. Your sone got caught stealing. That is the end of the story. If anyone has a duty to monitor their child it is the parents. Your son is held to the same standard as the rest of us. He just needs to grow up. You will only hurt him by finding an excuse. He is lucky he wasn't fired. If some kid came into your house and stole your tv you would be angry I would think. This is not rocket science. If he gets in more trouble let me know and we will see what we can do.
