Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
Clarification to school computer rules involving vandalism
In the school handbook in the Disciplinary Guidelines section under vandalism it includes ''...unauthorized use and manipulation of computer equipment.''
I have no intention of damaging the systems, I use my study halls to search for security flaws on the computer. So my question is. If I do something that does NOT damage the systems, and is not specifically against the rules, could I still be charges with vandalism?
I am mostly unclear on the part that says ''manipulation of computer equipment'', could you specify some things that could include?

Re: Clarification to school computer rules involving vandalism
If you use your study halls to "search for security flaws" on the system and you do it without permission, you are engaging in unauthorized use of the system, thereby violating the Disciplinary Guidelines. You may also be committing a federal crime. While you may mean no harm, you put yourself into jeopardy through such conduct.
