My son has been accused and charged with sexual battery an assault. His appointed public defendant is not doing anything to help him despite providing him verifiable facts and data for his defense.

What are his options?

Your public defender is probably overloaded with cases and, while it may look like he's ignoring you, he(or she) is probably just putting out fires as they come along. It's a very tough job.

However, if you are truly satisfied that your pd is not giving your case serious attention, you need to (1) hire private counsel; or (2) go to the public defender's main office in your county and speak to whoever is in charge.

In general, you are not allowed to pick your public defender, so your only recourse may be to hire a lawyer.
