Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
how to expunge record?
I plead guilty to an A misdemeanor of conversion in 1994. This was in Indiana. I am wondering what I can do to get this taken off my record. What fee is involved, what paperwork. The victim is even willing to write a letter to ask for this. I have no other record. I was 19 at the time and now 30. If I get this expunged, would it show up on a criminal background check? Could I say no to conviction of a crime if this would go through??

Re: how to expunge record?
The statute on expunging has been changed through the years in Indiana. Expunging requires that one was not convicted on the offense which he or she was arrested on, that there was no probable cause to begin with and no objection is raised by the state and arresting law enforcement agency to expunge. If a factual situation seems to follow this, then it may be possible.
