Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
A family has a 30 yr. old son that stayed with them for 5 months, while living at their home, he had sex with a 14 yr. old girl that stayed on a sleepover at their house with one of their younger daughters. The girl has claimed that it was consentual, but nonetheless, she is a minor and we believe that the 30 yr. old son should be prosecuted. The big question is this: That same family had adopted 3 girls and has a 12 yr. old biological son that live there also, they are so afraid that there will be repercussions against them because it happened at their house, they are afraid that their own children may be taken away from them because of this, though they had no knowledge that this happened til just recently. Please , they are scared they will lose their own children if they tell. HELP !
1 Answer from Attorneys
The mother or father of the family should ask specific questions about this situation. They should get to an attorney and ask questions in a confidential setting. Generally speaking, they do have the legal obligation to report this to the authorities.
