forgery
My daughter took three checks and tried to cash them from her father. The bank is out 2500.00 but the amount for the checks were 5100.00. she has never been in trouble before in her entire life. just a speeding ticket. I live in indiana. do you think that she would get jail time even though it is her first offence

In all likelihood, no. I'm not sure here if she forged stolen checks, or forged checks made out to her father, but in either case, these are felony charges and she could go to prison.
However, with a first offense and an ability to repay the money, she might be an excellent candidate for probation or diversion, or possibly a plea to a misdemeanor.
This all depends on the prosecutor and the way he or she handles such cases. Your best bet is to either hire a lawyer, or have her requrest a public defender, to work this out. She should NOT go and try and talk her way out of it. Get a lawyer.
