Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
I Found a brief case on the side if the road and stopped to get it. Another patron was doing the same as I he grabbed the case and asked itmf it was mine I nodded and he handed it to me. I got in my car and went out if town where I was already heading. I then got a csll from police saying that I was in possession of stolen property and have until nind o'clock to return property or I was going to jail.

I would recommend contacting a lawyer. There is obviously more going on here than you are aware of. To be convicted the state would need to prove to the trier of fact that you knew the briefcase was stolen.
