Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

furnishing alcohol to minors

I was with 3 of my friends last friday, and we drove to get alcohol for their house. They paid me in the store and selected items and put them in the cart. After loading the alcohol in my friends car and getting in, my underage friend drove about 100 ft down the road where we got pulled over. I recieved a citation for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors. My court date is September 20th, and I was wondering if this could in any way be deferred as this is my first criminal offense. My friends lawyer is going to try to talk the officers that issued the citations out of turning in the report as they have not done so already. Should I wait this out or get my own lawyer?

Re: furnishing alcohol to minors

Whether or not it can, or will, be deferred depends on particular judges and prosecutors. I would suggest that you get your own attorney so that you have someone looking at for your interests. Your friend's attorney only is obligated to assist your friend, and not you.
