Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

I currently live in California. Prior to this I lived in Indiana. The woman I was living with took money out of our joint account causing a few checks to bounce. I thought I had paid them all but missed one. After I had moved to California, charges were filed against me for check deceptionin Indiana. the summons to apear was served at my old adress and since I didn't appear because I didn't know about it a warrent was issued. I have since contact the courts and they cancelled the warrent and rescheduled the hearing. the Deputy prosecuter will not speak to me until after the initial hearing. The problem is I would need to spend over $400 to fly back to Indiana to apear in court for a $29 check. Is there anything I can do about this??? All I want is to pay this off and move on.

Contact an attorney in the county where the case is pending. That lawyer may be able to handle things in a way you can not with the prosecutor.
