How long until we know a court date?

While my brother was on work release he got charged with another crime for something someone said he did. They took him to the jail and is waiting for court. He's been sitting in there for 2 weeks now and there's still no court date. By law how long can he sit there before he see's a judge?

He'll stay in jail at least until the end of the original jail sentence he received when he was granted work release.

If he committed any crime while on work release, it's a violation of his probation, and he won't be free until the VOP and the second charge are resolved.
