Re: Making a statement
You do not have to make any statements to an officer and certainly not without an attorney present. If the questioning is one of making simple inquiry as to ID and the like, then as a good citizen you are expected to comply. However, if you are told you are suspect in a crime investigation, unable or feel unable to freely walk away without answering or a recorded statement is demanded of you, don't. Stop and state you do not wish to answer any questions, at least not without counsel.
