You need an experienced criminal appeals attorney. Attorneys who concentrate on appellate work are much different than criminal trial lawyers.

There are numerous rules and legal principals when it comes to filing a criminal appeal. Lawyers who do this work can often be very expensive. In some instances if the case is very strong, or novel in some way, there are organizations that may be willing to file an appeal. Organizations like the innocence project, for example, take a limited number of cases involving appeals where DNA evidence is an issue.

For further information, you may want to contact a local legal aid society, or ACLU chapter. They may at least be helpful in pointing you in the right direction.
