If five people were arested for the same misdemeanor charge but only three received notice to appear in court, does that mean charges were dropped for the other two? would they get some notification if that were the case?

When you were arrested, did you post bond or were you released on your own recgonince?
If you were released, you should have received a court date. At that court date, you should be advised if charges were filed and what the charges are. If you have not heard anything, you can always call the prosecutor's office in the county you were arrested in to verify charges were not filed.
