Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

Sentencing and various states

I have a DUI charge that I have been sentenced to 1 yr probation and 60 hours of community service. I have yet to complete the community service. I live in Indiana and plan to move to Louisiana. What I want to know is if I do not complete the sentence and I move to Louisiana, can they drag me back to Indiana, or is it simply a matter of not being able to return to Indiana in the future? Also, is there a statute of limitations on this type of sentencing?

I really need to know soon. Thanks

Kevin

Re: Sentencing and various states

Should you fail to complete your community service work, probation will most likely file a violation of probation with the court. This along with any failure on your part to appear to answer to this will no doubt result in a warrant issued for your arrest. This will remain active until apprehended. Even if in another state, a simple traffic stop may result in a search for open warrants. This process is computerized for law enforcement nation wide. The result could be arrest with that state notifying Indiana so you may be returned if it is so desired. The smarter way to go is to either quickly complete the csw or talk to your probation officer. It may be posiible to transfer probation or at least complete your cws obligation in the new state providing verification of this. A court order may be necessary to transfer probation.
