Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
Shoplifting
I was caught shoplifting at a JCPenney's store, and the police took me in his car and told me it was a misdemeanor and gave me a court date and a ticket and sent me on my way. My question is: do I need a lawyer? It was a $12 shirt and I have no past record (not even a speeding ticket). I'm 18 years old, and too scared to tell my parents. What do I need to do? Obviously plead guilty, I just don't know if I need a lawyer or not... or what to do at all, really.

Re: Shoplifting
It's not so obvious that you should plead guilty. Since you've never been through the system before, a lawyer would be helpful giving you guidance. I practice in your zip code, I'd be glad to offer you a free 30 minute consultation.
