Slasher Still Contacts Victim From Jail

Hello, I am a 20 year old female living in Indiana. My question is: If you have a protective order against someone, should the restrained person still be able to write you letters from jail? The man who left me with a five-inch scar on the side of my face is still writing me daily, threatening me, and that sort of thing. Isn't there some way to stop him and press more charges against him? I thought it was illegal for him to contact me in any way. Please help!!!

Any protective order which was issued by a criminal court if still vaild can be enforced. You may wish to contact the prosecutor's office with this or the court yourself informing it of this situation. If the protective order has lapsed, it may be possible for you to obtain a new one. If you are receiving threats to your well being, the prosecutor may determine that another criminal offense against this person should be filed. In any event I would urge you to contact the authorities without delay.
