Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
speedy trial
I was arrested june 26th 2007 for BWI(boating while intoxicated) no fishing liscense and no valid drivers liscense. i bonded out the same day, My intial hearing is scheduled for august 07 2008 the charges where ''filed'' on sept 9th 2007. I was wondering if i go to court on august 7th and request a speedy trial, does that mean they have to give me a trial by sept 9th 2008 (one year from the date of my charges being filed)?

Re: speedy trial
Since you bonded out the formal speedy trial rule does not apply to you. Also, I would bet it would be unlikely that you'd get a trial date prior to Sept. 9.
